KENGENThe Crucifixion

The Crucifixion stands as the anomaly of extreme passage through suffering into enduring meaning. It is the moment where life is stripped to its most vulnerable point, not as an ending, but as a transformation of significance. In this reading, the body on the cross becomes not only a figure of sacrifice, but a site of transmutation — where pain is converted into legacy, and mortality is stretched into symbolic permanence. From the base of the crucifix flows a multicoloured stream of paint, a living residue of what has been endured. It drips downward like time itself, yet arcs outward into colour, suggesting that suffering does not conclude in darkness but disperses into creation. Each hue carries a fragment of experience: grief, vision, devotion, rupture, and revelation. Together they form a continuum of expression that outlives the body. In this archetype, the artist's life mirrors the crucifixion — a tension between torment and clarity, fracture and form. What remains is not the wound itself, but the spectrum it produces: a radiant trace of meaning extracted from pain, becoming inheritance, prophecy, and visual truth.
