KIRETSUThe Fissure

The Fissure is an anomaly of rupture, a break in continuity where something once whole has split, exposing an interior that was never meant to be seen. It resists stable archetypal form because it is not an identity, but a condition: a fracture through which hidden structures become visible. In Jungian terms, the fissure can be understood as a moment when the psyche's constructed surface gives way, revealing tensions between conscious identity and the unconscious. It may appear as crisis, contradiction, or fragmentation—an experience of being divided against oneself. Yet this break is not purely destructive. It creates an opening. As an anomaly, the Fissure holds both danger and potential. It disrupts coherence, but also allows for transformation by making visible what was previously sealed. Through the crack, new meaning can emerge. The Fissure reminds us that wholeness is not always smooth or intact; sometimes it is precisely through breaking that deeper integration becomes possible, as the hidden is forced into awareness.
