NUKEGARAThe Sold-Out
The Sold-Out is lived from the inside as a slow reorganisation of will. It does not begin as corruption, but as adaptation. An individual still feels they are choosing, still feels intention, but increasingly those choices are shaped by external reward systems — recognition, financial gain, access, approval. Over time, the source of action shifts away from inner conviction and toward outcome optimisation. What works replaces what is true. A writer, for example, may begin by trying to express something internal, but gradually becomes a mechanism for producing what is required. The question 'what do I want?' fades not through crisis, but through redundancy. In its place emerges function, efficiency, responsiveness. The self becomes increasingly instrumental, a consciousness that executes rather than originates. The Sold-Out persists not as rupture, but as continuity after dislocation, a life that still moves forward, but no longer originates from within itself.
