The Immortalised, a Medici inflected in marble by Michelangelo, embodies eternity, his visage frozen between mortality and legacy. He is The Star in Tarot, an enduring symbol of fame and beauty transcending death. Like the statues of ancient gods, his image speaks to humanity's longing for permanence, a counterpoint to the skull's reminder of life's brevity. His immortalisation raises questions of legacy, art's power, and the limits of human achievement. The Medici immortalised is a Buddhist paradox: he appears eternal, yet remains ultimately transient, his fame merely a ripple in time. Through art, he gains a form of afterlife, showing that while we may pass, our essence can endure through creation.
