VELMAThe Mask
The Mask is a paradox, reflecting the Tarot's Moon − a figure both concealed and revealing, a symbol of hidden depths and projected illusions. Like a skull hidden behind an ornate visage, the Mask speaks to the human condition's duality, the divide between who we are and what we show. In literature and psychology, the Mask represents repression and artifice, yet also the protective self. Through the Mask, we confront our own need for concealment, the desire to control perception, to shield ourselves from life's rawness. It reflects the Buddhist insight that self is an illusion, a construct obscuring true essence. This archetype is a meditation on identity and the fragile line between self and society.
