LANCEThe Minotaur

Part man, part bull, both monstrous and tragic, the minotaur represents the shadowy depths of the psyche, a beast lurking in the labyrinthine corners of human consciousness. His skull, a fusion of animal and human, reminds us of our primal nature, an echo of the Tarot's Devil card − a symbol of bondage to base instincts and unresolved fears, but also of the duality within us all − a fusion of humankind's intellect and the beast's primal force. Born of transgression and confined in a maze, the Minotaur is a testament to humanity's inner conflicts, an archetype of both victim and villain. In mythology, he evokes dread and compassion in equal measure. Like the Buddhist view of samsara, his existence is cyclic and entangled in suffering. The Minotaur embodies life's struggle, our fear of the unknown, and the haunting realisation that mortality is a maze with no promised exit to enlightenment.
